Please Note: This is a series of 11 live Zoom webinars. Though all 11 courses are virtual, these are NOT self-paced courses and no makeup sessions or recordings will be offered. No partial credit is available. Participants may not enroll in individual courses without signing up for the full series. Please make sure you check the dates & times before you enroll to ensure you are available for all dates listed below. You will only register 1 time to enroll in all 11 courses. 

Dates: Live, virtual sessions will be held as Zoom webinars every other week between Tuesday, July 11, 2023 - Tuesday, November 28, 2023 on the following dates. These are NOT self-paced courses; you must attend via Zoom during the dates and times listed. Participants must attend all 11 sessions in full to receive credit. All times are in Eastern Time:

Series Description 

For those first entering the field of prevention, those who need to establish a foundational knowledge of key concepts, and those already in the field who need continuing education for professional development, this series provides key components across the various Prevention education domains. The goal of this 11-session series is to provide the core knowledge and skills for Preventionists to advance their workforce development. 

All courses will be held as live (synchronous) Zoom Webinars. Participants will receive a separate Zoom link for each session. If you are unable to participate in a live session, you can still take other sessions for your own education but please note that we will not be able to award a certificate or CEs. Participants who attend all 11 sessions in full will receive a certificate for 22 CEs after the series ends. We are unable to offer certificates for each individual course and unfortunately, makeup sessions will not be available. This is the series listing for all 11 courses and participants only need to register one time to gain access to all 11 courses. 

Learning Objectives

Each of the 11 sessions in the series has its own distinct learning objectives. Here is just a sampling of one objective from each session:

  • Define prevention as a profession
  • Summarize the different theories that drive prevention practice
  • Explain the different areas of Scope of Service for Prevention Credentialed Professionals, including how Prevention is different from clinical services.
  • Discover the Strategic Prevention Framework as an evidence-based process that frames and guides prevention work.
  • Identify how data shows the success of program process and outcomes to measure.
  • Describe the Relational Framework as part of capacity and community-based process.
  • Utilize the IOM model and CSAP strategies to bridge prevention and treatment services to create healing for the whole family.
  • Analyze the difference between effective and ineffective prevention education strategies.
  • Describe the process model of communication and facilitation skills, including effective listening and how to use visual aids.
  • Review the public health model and how it influences the work of prevention.
  • Classify how data is used in grant writing.

Meet Your Presenter

Ashley Garcia, LISW-S, OCPCAshley Garcia, LISW-S, OCPC has been the Prevention Program Supervisor for Alcohol and Drug Services at Columbus Public Health since 2016. She supervises a team of 7 Prevention Coordinators under ADAMH grant-funded, school-based and community prevention programs that target at-risk populations in Columbus, specifically those impacted by family substance use. Ashley is responsible for implementing program curriculums to fidelity and fostering relationships with community partners. In recent years, she has focused on increasing youth-led prevention opportunities at the Health Department, including creating pathways into the prevention field for those who completed their prevention programs as youth.

Ashley spent 3 years with CPH as a Prevention Coordinator and is passionate about empowering others through education that fosters resiliency. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Bowling Green State University and a Masters of Social Work from The Ohio State University. Ashley is the recipient of the 2023 Ohio Prevention Professionals Association Community Champion Award. As a Prevention Consultant she hopes to advance the field of prevention through education, mentoring, and workforce development.

  • Course Format & Completion Requirements
    • This series has 11 courses. Each course is a synchronous (live) Zoom webinar. 
    • To receive credit, participants must attend all 11 live sessions in full and complete one series evaluation after the whole series concludes. 
  • Certificate & Reporting 
    • Once your series evaluation/feedback survey is submitted at the very end of the series, ScarletCanvas-Catalog will generate your series CE certificate/certificate of attendance for download and/or print. There will only be one certificate for the series
    • CE hours will be reported to CE Broker within 30-days of completion of the entire series for OCSWMFTB and OCDP licensees who have attended all 11 sessions in full and who provide their full license numbers with their series evaluation/feedback survey.
