Course Description

Prevention is a growing field that has a rich history. Many still struggle to describe what prevention is even though examples are all around us. This course will review a brief history of prevention, what was not successful and what theories drive current practice. We will move from theory to practice by understanding the six (6) strategies in the prevention taxonomy and how to use the IOM model to drive service implementation. 

This course is the first in our eleven-part prevention training series. We are happy to offer a 10% discount to those who register for the full series here: Prevention Training Series 2022. 

Learning Objectives

• Identify what Prevention is and better understand the diversity of professions that influence the field.
• Describe a brief history of prevention specifically substance use prevention tactics.
• Summarize the different theories that drive prevention practice.
• Recognize the IOM Model for Prevention and apply how it influences prevention implementation.
• Discuss the Prevention Taxonomy including the six (6) CSAP strategies highlighting examples of service delivery.

  • You must attend the full session to receive credit. Partial credit will not be awarded, with no exceptions.
    • Your attendance will be automatically recorded by Zoom upon your arrival to and departure from the meeting/webinar.
  • Participants must meet all course requirements as listed on the home page course task list.
• Evaluation, Certificate, & Reporting
  • Eligible participants will receive an email announcement within five (5) business days of the training end date indicating access to the course evaluation/feedback survey has been opened.
  • Once your evaluation/feedback survey is submitted, ScarletCanvas-Catalog will generate your CE certificate/certificate of attendance for download and/or print
  • CE hours will be reported to CE Broker within 30-days for OCSWMFTB and OCDP licensees who provide their full license numbers with their course evaluation/feedback survey.
