Full course description
Course Description
This 4-hour, self-paced course provides an overview of the key changes the American Psychological Association made to the DSM-IV when they produced the DSM-5 in 2013. The first module explores the purpose and limitations of the Manual and describes its organization. You will use what you have learned to interpret the manifestation of symptoms in a person presenting with a potential mental disorder and take electronic knowledge checks that test your understanding. The second module explores factors which may affect the diagnostic process. These factors include socioeconomic status, trauma, TBI, stress, substance use/misuse, adverse childhood experiences, and combat. The third module looks at how to use the DSM-5 to accurately diagnose schizophrenia and psychotic disorders and personality disorders.
This course was developed in March 2020.
