Course Description
This 3-hour, self-paced course explores evidence-informed approaches to supervision in social work. High-quality supervision is vital to supporting staff who provide services to vulnerable populations. During this training, we will define social work supervision, investigate your ideas about supervision, and explore best evidence-based practices for supervision. Finally, we will review two current supervisory models and their implications for the social workers who practice in a variety of different contexts.
This course was developed in June 2021.

- Identify the support, education, and administrative functions involved in supervision.
- Recognize the value of using evidence-backed practices in supervision.
- Use a self-assessment tool to discover your management style under stress.
- Distinguish among Bolman and Deal's Four Frames for analyzing organizations & organizational behavior.
- Suggest evidence-based practices for clinical scenarios.
- Curate a list of supervisory practices that fit your supervisory style and agency/organization.

- Course Format & Completion Requirements
- This course is asynchronous with reading and video-based modules. Participants will view recorded videos and read materials provided from within each module, as well as externally linked webpages.
- Certificate & Reporting
- Once your evaluation/feedback survey is submitted, ScarletCanvas-Catalog will generate your CE certificate/certificate of attendance for download and/or print
- CE hours will be reported to CE Broker within 30-days for OCSWMFTB and OCDP licensees who provide their full license numbers with their course evaluation/feedback survey.
This training is approved by The Ohio State University College of Social Work and accepted by The State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapist (OCSWMFT) Board.
The Ohio State University College of Social Work, (Provider: 50-24068), is an approved provider for The Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals (OCDP) Board.
Please note: You may only complete this course one time for CE credit. You are welcome to access a course again to revisit content while it is open, but you will only receive one certificate and credit for Ohio licensees will only be reported to CE Broker one time for your completion of this particular course.
