Course Description

This 1-hour self-paced course presents information for Ohio State College of Social Work Field Instructors about the student Capstone Evaluation Project experience. We are serving many students now through online course offerings devoted to the Capstone project which is completed while students take SWK 7401/7402 at the end of their programs. This course will help ensure that the College continues to provide assistance and support to our Field Instructors as you provide the same to our students, related to their Capstone Projects.

The Capstone Project, in particular, is an area where questions and concerns arise. This course will provide a broader context to understand why students are required to complete these projects.

First, we will provide an overview and our 'Why' behind The Capstone Project. Then, you will review The Capstone Project Roadmap and the two major products that students are required to create for their projects. We will provide information about a project that briefly describes project expectations and you will see a letter from each course section Instructor that briefly overviews the project. Last, you will learn what you can do, as a Field Instructor, to assist and support your students through this process.

This course was developed in September 2020.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the purpose of the capstone/evaluation project
  • Identify how the capstone/evaluation project integrates with CSWE learning competencies
  • Distinguish the difference between research and evaluation in the context of the capstone/evaluation proj
