According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), in Ohio alone, 1.9 million adults face the reality of living with a mental health condition. Mental Illness does not discriminate based on race, gender, socioeconomic status, or identity. However, background and identity can make access to quality culturally responsive mental health and addiction recovery services treatment much more difficult.

In 2020, ADAMH conducted a Community Needs Assessment (CNA) to better understand the strengths and opportunities of our behavioral health system. The findings showed clear barriers for individuals receiving care rooted in social determinants of health and the lack of culturally relevant services. There is no doubt that the increase in behavioral healthcare disparities across our nation and locally over the last few years has taken a toll on all of us – but especially for those from our most vulnerable communities.

Join us to learn from local and national experts of both scholarship and practical application, how diverse communities in Central Ohio are impacted by behavioral health disparities, and actionable ways to remain on track as a culturally responsive professional.
