Course Description

We don’t want a failure to communicate. Prevention in 2022 has shown a need to evolve to modern tools that foster a hybrid of in-person and virtual methods. Our culture is surrounded by social media and as prevention specialists, we must understand the apps and tools that our participants use including the messages and norms that encourage the high-risk behaviors we are trying to prevent. This course will discuss the process model of communication to lay the foundation of basic communication skills. We will then explore media literacy and advocacy including being in the very places that we fight against.

This course is the seventh in our eleven-part prevention training series. We are happy to offer a 10% discount to those who register for the full series here: Prevention Training Series 2022.

• Describe the process model of communication.
• Illustrate how to use visual aids and social media, and social marketing to enhance prevention messaging.
• Discuss how prevention has changed post-pandemic Zoom world.
• Recognize the impact of media literacy and media analysis on environmental prevention understanding a social norming perspective.

  • Participants must submit an individual registration in ScarletCanvas to receive CE credit.
    • You will receive your Zoom webinar link one (1) business day prior to the training. Please do not share this link with anyone, it is unique to you.
  • You must attend the full session to receive credit. Partial credit will not be awarded, with no exceptions.
    • Your attendance will be automatically recorded by Zoom upon your arrival to and departure from the meeting/webinar.
  • Participants must meet all course requirements as listed on the home page course task list.
• Evaluation, Certificate, & Reporting
  • Eligible participants will receive an email announcement within five (5) business days of the training end date indicating access to the course evaluation/feedback survey has been opened.
  • Once your evaluation/feedback survey is submitted, ScarletCanvas-Catalog will generate your CE certificate/certificate of attendance for download and/or print
  • CE hours will be reported to CE Broker within 30-days for OCSWMFTB and OCDP licensees who provide their full license numbers with their course evaluation/feedback survey.

  • Use Chrome browser for Windows and MacOS (make sure both the browser and your computer OS are current and do not need updating).
    • Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge do not seem to be compatible.
    • If you experience issues with the CAPTCHA (I’m not a robot verification) upon registration, we have found it resolves itself when using a current Chrome browser.
• Set up messages from Instructure/ScarletCanvas-Catalog at notifications@instructure.com as a trusted/whitelisted email address in your email contacts, so that our messages/announcements aren't routed to your Junk/Spam folder. 
  • Messages sent to you via this system will list Instructure/Canvas Catalog as the Sender, not OSU CSW.
