Course Description

This training will present strategies to address trauma response in the supervisory relationship. Trauma Exposure Response can negatively impact staff's ability to be engaged, supportive, motivated providers. Supervisors must be prepared to identify and address staff trauma responses. This training will define supervisory strategies to address trauma response in supervision. 

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to define and describe Vicarious Traumatization, Secondary Traumatic Stress, Compassion Fatigue and Trauma Exposure Response.
  • Participants will be able to explain the impact of trauma exposure on practitioners and their work.
  • Participants will be able to identify and apply techniques that assess for Trauma Exposure Response.
  • Participants will be able to discuss and employ supervisory strategies from the Person-Centered Supervision Model, related to preventing and addressing Vicarious Traumatization, Secondary Traumatic Stress, and Compassion Fatigue.

  • Eligibility Requirements
    • Participants must submit an individual registration in both ScarletCanvas and CarmenZoom to receive CE credit.
    • You must attend the full session to receive credit. Partial credit will not be awarded, with no exceptions.
      • Your attendance will be automatically recorded by Zoom upon your arrival to and departure from the meeting/webinar.
    • Participants must meet all course requirements as listed on the home page course task list.
  • Guidance
    • Eligible participants will receive an email announcement within five (5) business days of the training indicating access to the course evaluation/feedback survey has been opened.
    • Once your evaluation/feedback survey is submitted, ScarletCanvas-Catalog will generate your CE certificate/certificate of attendance for download and/or print
    • CE hours will be reported to CE Broker within 30-days for OCSWMFTB and OCDP licensees who provide their full license numbers with their course evaluation/feedback survey.

The Ohio State University College of Social Work, (Provider: 1628), is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. OSU College of Social Work maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 4/30/21-4/30/22. Social workers completing this course receive three (3) SUPERVISION continuing education credits.

Meet Your Presenters

  • Angela Fry, MSW, LISW-S, graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work and a Master of Science in Social Work. Angela’s first job out of school was at CHOICES, a local domestic violence agency in Columbus, Ohio, as a case manager for the women and children staying at the safe shelter. Angela then worked at Catholic Social Services for ten years in a variety of capacities: as a home-based clinician working with families involved with child protective services; as an individual, couple’s and group counseling clinician; and finally as the Clinical Supervisor of the Family Strengthening Division. Angela is currently an Associate Professor in the Social Work & Human Services program at Columbus State.
  • Jorie Schwartz, MSW, LISW-S, is a graduate of the MSW program at The Ohio State University and has worked primarily in the areas of community mental health and school-based prevention. She worked as a field coordinator for the College of Social Work at OSU and is now in what she describes as her “dream job” as Associate Professor of Social and Human Services at Columbus State Community College. She has managed many programs and has supervised staff and students for most of her career.
