Course Description

This free, 2-hour training features one module with an edited recording of a live CareLine training that was first held as a Zoom Webinar on May 6th, 2021.

Everyone is a gatekeeper for suicide prevention. You do not have to be a mental health professional to save a life and to have a caring conversation with someone who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts. However, asking the question, "Are you thinking about suicide?" can be especially overwhelming for someone to find themselves asking because of the stigma and misinformation surrounding suicide and suicide prevention. This training will provide participants with the confidence and competence needed when engaging with someone who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts and how to effectively refer them to the appropriate mental health and/or crisis services.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn the warning signs and risk factors associated with suicide.
  • Learn how to engage in a conversation with someone who may be suicidal.
  • Learn how to refer someone who may be suicidal to the appropriate behavioral health services and resources.

Continuing Education Classifications

  • Two (2) CE clock hours
  • Meets requirements for CSWMFT Board
