Full course description

This course is eligible for RN/CHW CEs only.

Trauma informed care is an organizational structure and treatment framework that involves understanding, recognizing and responding to the effects of trauma. It is important for Community Health Workers to recognize how common trauma is, and to understand that every client may have experienced serious trauma at some point in their lives. The trauma informed care approach assumes that clients may have trauma in their history, and the provider needs to be able to act accordingly.

During this training, the presenter will provide an overview of the concept of trauma and it’s connection to the adverse childhood experiences. Participants will also learn trauma informed strategies that can be applied to the care of all clients. In addition, secondary trauma will be discussed along with strategies aimed towards self care of the community health worker.
