Age-Friendly Communities Certificate: Course 2

About this Course

Prior to enrolling in this course, we highly recommend completing Age-Friendly Communities Certificate: Course 1.

The Age-Friendly Innovation Center (AFIC) at the Ohio State University College of Social Work has partnered with local and national experts to create an online training that provides the opportunity for participants to earn a Certificate in Age-Friendly Communities. Earning this certificate will demonstrate competency in the foundational tenets of creating an age-friendly community. The Certificate is divided into two courses and will cover critical background information about older adults and the age-friendly framework for community improvement (assess, plan, implement). The courses in this Certificate centralize the existing age-friendly community resources and identify in-depth, concrete steps for local implementation. After successfully completing the knowledge assessments for all modules across the two courses, participants will earn a Certificate in Age-Friendly Communities.

Course 1 of the Age-Friendly Communities Certificate, focused on the history of the Age-Friendly Communities movement, provide knowledge on key concepts related to working with older adults, and finally an overview of communication, language, and inclusion considerations. After covering the foundational knowledge above, it concludes with an overview of entering the Age-Friendly Network and information on completing the assessment phase.

This Course, building from Course 1 will cover how communities move beyond the assessment phase of the work, building an Age-Friendly Strategic Plan, including highlighting replicable strategies, approaches to implementing the plan including funding considerations, documenting your impact, and finally thinking towards ‘restarting’ the Age-Friendly framework for your second cycle and beyond.

Targeted audiences: Individuals who completed Age-Friendly Certificate Course 1 and individuals interested in learning about, entering, or working in the World Health Organization and AARP Livable Communities Network. The course is built to be accessible to individuals from all professional backgrounds and disciplines.
