Course Description

This free, 2.5-hour training features one module with an edited recording of a live 988 & CareLine Development Training Series session that was first held as a Zoom Webinar on July 22nd, 2021.

Utilizing a framework of mindfulness and other contemplative practices, this course explores the collective results of living in a country where white supremacy continues to live emboldened and embodied within the very systems and structures of this nation. This training affords an opportunity to pause and reflect on the embodiment of racialized trauma and white supremacy, with a focus on the path moving forward, starting with individual healing to support collective healing. The course also provides some practical guidance on how micro-level clinicians and phone line workers can support racial justice with callers. Specifically, the course highlights opportunities to intervene within a racial justice framework. Ultimately, this course provides guidance to assist in the alleviation and transformation of the physical, environmental, economic, political and legal contexts of current oppression in callers' lives.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe racial justice and a framework for intentional racial justice practice that they can use in their daily practice lives.
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of racialized trauma.
  • Identify contemplative practices to help themselves and others heal from racialized trauma.
  • Identify the skills/tactics they can intentionally use within a racial justice framework to assist in the alleviation and transformation of oppression in the lives of their clients/callers.
