Course Description

This free, 1.5-hour training features one module with an edited recording of a live 988 & CareLine Development Training series session that was first held as a Zoom Webinar on October 27th, 2022.

Where you live should not determine how you are treated. And yet for children born in Appalachian Ohio, access to physical, mental and behavioral health treatment is hard to come by. In fact, if the Appalachian counties of Ohio were combined into a separate state, it would be the second-most economically distressed state in the country. This course focuses on the families of Appalachia Ohio, as well as their culture, demographic, and need for behavioral health care. Participants will gain tools and techniques on how to assist those in crisis from the Appalachia Ohio region and an understanding of the obstacles this demographic has to overcome.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the culture, strengths, and history of Appalachia.
  • Identify the main hardships Appalachians, mainly children, face today.
  • Identify ways to assist those in crisis from the Appalachian Ohio region.
