Full course description
Course Description
This free, 2-hour training features one module with an edited recording of a live CareLine training that was first held as a Zoom Webinar on June 3rd, 2021.
In times of crisis, we desperately want to say the right thing. To have the solution. To know the right thing to do to fix it. And we really don’t want to say the wrong thing. But mostly, we want to show we care and are there to support the people we love or are charged with helping. But how can we possibly be an expert on every possible situation that comes our way? And even if we were, what would make our solution the right one for someone else? These are the questions and doubts that often prevent us from saying anything or feeling like we’re able to be there for someone in a time of crisis. But we don’t have to have had the exact same experience as someone to be there for them. Or necessarily even have had years of training to be the right person at the right moment. Whether you’re new to crisis intervention or an experienced clinician, active listening skills can quickly build a powerful connection between you and the person with whom you’re talking. Together, we’ll cover the basic principles to help establish rapport, guardrails to ensure productive and supportive conversation and grounded skills and techniques you can implement immediately to connect with people and ultimately get them the help they need.
Learning Objectives
- Create safe places for conversation by putting into practice the key components of active listening.
- Demonstrate the necessary elements for establishing and building rapport with clients and those receiving services to ensure needs are being met.
- Identify and address possible barriers and biases to providing services that may show up for both providers and clients that may get in the way of providing services.
